This exhibit takes a look at puppets from our region. For centuries, puppets and masks have been used by indigenous people on the Northwest Coast so we start with a small sample of these traditions. For over a century, foreigners have been bringing their own traditions and contemporary styles of puppetry. Of course, we do not have examples of every puppeteer from our region but we try to show a little of the depth and breadth of puppetry from Oregon, Washington and BC. We dedicate this exhibit to Jean Enticknap (1949-2021) and Aurora Valentinetti (1921-2022), two local puppeteers who dedicated their careers to this unique art.

Northwest Puppet Center is proud to have become one of the greatest resources on the art of puppetry. Major contributions of puppets and books include: The Lettie Connell Schubert Collection, The Cook/Marks Collection, The Ann and Monroe Morgan Collection, The John Miller Collection, The Josie Robbins Collection, The Glenn Paulsen Collection and The Russell Shanks Collection. Along with offering programs in Seattle, Northwest Puppet Center has brought puppetry to communities around the world.
